Abstract: Ukrainian society is concerned about one of the acute global
problems of the 21st century - drug addiction and its impact on crime,
particularly drug crime. The aim of this study is to assess societal risks
and outcomes following the growth of drug addiction in Ukraine. The
study is based on historical, comparative, simulation, statistical and
cartographic research methodologies. These sources include statistical
reports of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies, analytical materials
from the World Health Organisation, statistical data from the State
Service of Ukraine for Medicines and Drug Control, and the State
Institution Centre for medical statistics of the Ministry of Healthcare
of Ukraine. Results demonstrate that illegal trafficking of narcotic
drugs and psychotropic substances in Ukraine is caused by a high
level of non-medical consumption.
