Order 73-12-1

                            UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
                            CIVIL AERONAUTICS BOARD
                                WASHINGTON, D.C.

                      Issued under delegated authority pA
                               December 3, 1973

Application of

PAN AMERICAN WORLD AIRWAYS, INC. Docket 23965

for postponement of inauguration of
service pursuant to section 205.2
of the Economic Regulations. :

                     ORDER AUTHORIZING FURTHER POSTPONEMENT
OF THE DATE OF INAUGURATION OF SERVICE

On November 5, 1973, Pan American World Airways, Inc. (PAA) filed an
application pursuant to section 205.2 of the Board's Economic Regulationd
requesting authority to further postpone inauguration of service to the
Cook Islands, Western Samoa, Tonga, and the New Hebrides on its route 115
until March 19, 1974. 1/

* In support of its application, PAA alleges that the deficiencies in
the pattern of traffic rights and the limitations that required the previous
postponements of its services to those points continue to apply; and PAA
is continuing its planning for South Pacific local operations and will
institute service as soon as government authorization problems are resolved.

No answers in opposition to PAA's application have been received.

Upon consideration of the foregoing and pursuant to authority duly
delegated by the Board in the Board's Regulations, 14 C.F.R. 385.13, it
is found that PAA has made a sufficient showing to warrant the grant of
authority to defer the inauguration of service to the Cook IslandsyWestern
Samoa, Tonga, and the New Hebrides on its amended route 115 until March 19,
1974, and that grant of this application is in the public interest.

I/ The original authority was granted in Order 71-12-57 dated December 13,
1971, and renewed in Orders 72-6-79, 72-12-16 and 73-5-148, dated June 19
and December 4, 1972 and May 31, 1973, respectively. Present authority
expires December 19, 1973.
