EASTERN AIR LINES, INC. for the temporary continuation of authority to suspend an interchange service ORDER EXTENDING TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF INTERCHANGE SERVICE On April 30, 1968, Braniff Airways, Inc. (Braniff), and Eastern Air Lines, Inc. (Eastern), jointly filed an application L/ requesting that they be permitted to defer resumption of an interchange service between points on Braniff's certificate for Route 9 and Segment 1 of Eastern's certificate for Route 10 until no later than July 1, 1968. By Order E-26057, adopted November 30, 1967, the Board authorized the suspension of the said interchange service from December 1, 1967 to May 1, 1968. In support of the request for extension, the joint appli- cants allege that the precise pattern of new, express schedules to replace the multistop service previously operated has not been fixed; that sched- uling of aircraft and crews and the integration of the operating patterns of the two carriers cannot be accomplished prior to June 14, 1968; and I/ The request is framed as a contingent application in that the carriers believe that the Board could reasonably find that no specific approval to defer resumption of service is required. They cite the fact that the under- lying interchange authority (Order E-5299), which is still in force and effect, is conditional upon the filing of schedules with the Board for approval, and apparently contend that the act of approving schedules to be effective subsequent to May 1 would itself constitute an extension of the suspension period. Since Order E-26057, described below, specifically authorizes a suspension of service for a defined period of time, the Board finds that it should extend the suspension date by the issuance of an order.
