..lN ACT declaring 'what Laws are in force in this State.

[SECT. 1.] Be it enacted by the people of the state of Illinols
.represented in the general assembly, and ;t is hereby enacted by
the authority of the sane, That the common law of England.
all statutes or acts of the British Parliamient made in aid of
the common law prior to the fourth year of the reign of King
James the I. excepting the second section of the sixth chap-
tor of XIII. Elizabeth; the eighth chapter XIII. Elizabeth,
ad ninth chapter XXXVII. Henry VIII. and which are of
a general nature and not local to that Kingdom, shall be the
rule of decisiou, and shall be considered as of full torcey unti
repealed by legislative authority.

acknouwledge any sum of money or specific article of proper-
ty to be due to any other person or persons, shall be takeu to
be due and payable, and the sum of money or specific article
of propum'ty therein mentioned, shall,.by virtue thereo, be dime
and payable to the person or persons to whom the said notv,
