Dear Mayor Christian:
This opinion of the Attorney General is issued in response to your request
on behalf of the Odenville City Council.
QUESTION
May funds from the two mill ad valorem tax be
used to purchase fire department uniforms and public
education material for fire safety and severe weather?
FACTS AND ANALYSIS
Your request specifically states that the public education materials the
city wishes to purchase are flyers, magnets, or other novelties with precautions
on them. The tax to which you refer is authorized by section 6 of the Local
Amendments for St. Clair County of the Recompiled Constitution of Alabama.
