The following persons were in attendance: Julia Frey, Mary Revell, Janet Blizard, Pat Gillman, Colette Winston, Nancy Newkirk, Barbara Werthmann, Colette Winston, Pat Gurne, Linda Bridgman and Kaye Hearn. Secretary's Report - The Minutes of the WBA Board of Director's Meeting held September 19, 1986 were adopted as amended. A motion was made, seconded and carried (MSC) that the 44 persons proposed for membership on the list entitled New Membership Applications 10/21/86 were so approved for membership. Treasurer's Report - The August 31, 1986 and September 30, 1986 financial reports were distributed by Mary Revell. Additionally, a draft of the audit as of May 31, 1986 was distributed. Upon questioning of members of the Board, Mary stated that she would have the auditor verify the figures listed under networking and newsletter in the Audit. Colette Winston arrived at 6:45 p.m. Report on the WBA Foundation -- The WBA Foundation nominating committee chaired by Barbara Werthmann reported that the committee has received definite positive responses from five WBA members who wish to be nominated to the WBA Foundation Board. The committee expects more resumes to be forthcoming. Pat Gurne arrived at 6:55 p.m. President's Report -- Bettina Lawton reported that the Showcase program to be held on October 28, 1986 regarding fetal surgery and therapy is going to be very interesting and encouraged the Board to encourage attendance. Additionally, the program on Drug Testing scheduled to be held on November 15, 1986 should also be very timely and interesting. Report on the Foundation -- Jane Golden Belford arrived and reported as follows with respect to the history of the WBA Foundation Board. The Foundation was formed for the purpose of educating and training women in the law (See articles of incorporation for an illustrative, not exclusive, list of methods by which to accomplish this.) The Foundation Board was set up with a Board of Directors and five officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Auditor.) The Foundation received non-profit tax status in the Fall of 1982, and received its exemption from D.C. franchise fees in February of 1982, thus completing the documentary requirements for the Foundation.
