handle is hein.peggy/wbam0002 and id is 1 raw text is: WOMEN'S BAR ASSOCIATION MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING JANUARY 21, 1986 The meeting was called to order by the President Patricia Gillman at 6:40 p.m. The following persons were in attendance: Wendy Adams, Janine Harris, Jennifer Gold, Katharine Donohoe, Francine Pinto, Linda Bridgman, Helen Blechman, Patricia Gurne, Judy Hetherton, Ilene Price, Colette Winston, Gail Fogarty, and Debbie Diener. Legislation and Public Issues Committee: Wendy Adams reported concerning the amicus brief in Palmer v. Schultz, that she had received a number of comments from Board members. They all identified the same problem. The portions of the brief which were identified have been reworked. A motion was made, seconded and passed that the Board give final consent to the filing of the amicus brief in Palmer v. Schultz. Wendy further reported concerning King v. Palmer that the appellee has filed a motion for rehearing. The Department of Justice has filed asking for an extension of time to file a motion in support of the appellee's request for rehearing. The consensus was that the WBA does not have enough time to file an amicus opposition'in support of the appellant, however we could write Bradford Reynolds stating our opposition. Wendy indicated that she believed that Justice is concerned about the King case because King might be used against the government in the Vincent case which is now before the Supreme Court and in which the WBA is signing on as an amicus. A motion was made, seconded and passed that the Board authorize the President to sign a letter or to make a telephone call to the Department of Justice to express our view that Justice's intervention in King v. Palmer is unwarranted. Colette Winston abstained from the voting. A suggestion was made that the letter or telephone call emphasize the fact that King v. Palmer does not really expand Title 7. The Committee will do the drafting of the letter for Pat's signature. Theatre Party Report: Jennifer Gold reported that the Committee is still looking into caterers for a pretheatre reception. It is not likely they will be able to find one who can do it for less than $9.00 per person, including wine and not including hard liquor. About $10.00 of each ticket will be tax deductible. There were some concerns expressed about a cost of $35.00 per ticket since this would mean $70.00 per couple and we
