We who have made the law a career, who love 'its traditions, and who pride ourselves on our contribution to the administration of justice, gather here tonight to celebrate the 29th Anniversary of the founding of our Assn. We can think of no more fitting way to observe our anniversary than by honoring our Judiciary, and it gives us real pleasure to have so many distinguished guests here this evening. On the occasion of our last annual dinner we 'were in the throes of war. Since that time we have grateful hearts that peace has com6 and our loved ones are returning home. The war was a challen5o to thewoman lawyer. She had an opportunity and a call to carry on her brother's work while he fought for his country. And the woman lawyer answered-this chall2 gb. Women in all lines of endeavor have earned the praise of their countrymen everywhere for their fine accomplishments during those dark days. Indeed these times of change have ever widened the horison of women's activities during this age of atomic energy, radar, and othr inventions which but a few years ago were beyond our comprehension. Women have made progress in all lands. It has recently been announced that President de Gaulle andGeneral MacArthur have bestowed the franchise,on the women of France and Japan. Harvard University is going to open its medical school to women, and our own Georgetown University had opened certain classrooms to women students. Thus women everywhere are gaining their rightful place in the scheme of human endeavors. So long as the woman lawyer tM--a- _ 'Will ak~a contribution of real value to the honored profession of the law she will gaingat and pres ve her rightful place.
