In her history of the campaign for women police, Janis Appier argues that men in policing adopted the crime fighting model as a response to the crime prevention model introduced by women pioneers in policing. Dorie Klein discusses the new feminist genre of American mystery fiction and answers questions about its rela- tionship to real crime, especially against women. Mary E. Gilfus constructs a conceptual framework for understanding the routes women take from being victims to becoming immersed in crime as a means of survival. The relationship between recent court deci- sions dealing with women inmates' rights and the women's post- incarceration family, health and employment needs are analyzed by Barbara B. Knight. Elizabeth A. Stanko explores the criminological conundrum of women's fear of crime and argues that the analysis and construction of the concept fear of crime fail to capture women's lived experiences of sexual and physical violence.
