OPENING OF NEW I-EADQUARTERS LAUNCHES FALL PROGRAM OF BAR ASSOCIATION On Tuesday, October 1 1 , 1960 more than 3 0 0 members and guests were present for the first Stated meeting of the year, and for the Dedication Services of the new Headquarters of The Bar Association of St. Louis. If you have not had the opportunity to visit our wonderful new headquarters, it -is almost impossible for you to- understand the many words of praise and descriptive terms which have beenused by those win have already enjoyed the new facilities. Everyone has been surprised beyond their fondest dreams of what elegance the finished area possesses. Since the opening of service to our members on Wednesday noon, the rooms have been filled to capa - city, and those who have been fortunate to enjoy the wonderful food, excellent service , and the beautiful surroundings really know the meaning of what we have been missing for these many years. A great word of appreciation goes to the Hotel Manager and staff for the fine way they have perform- ed in the completionof the area in time for this meet- ing, and for the accomplishment of creating attract- ive and useful headquarters. It was also our pleasure to have as our Guest Speaker for the first meeting, Mr. Whitney N. Sey- mour, President of The American Bar Association. He gave a most inspiring message at t he Stated Meeting , and at the Dedication Service challenged members of The Bar Association of-St. Louis to live up to the standards set forth in the purpose of o u r organization. A copy of the original Petition a n d Constitution in a bound book was presented as a memento of the opening meeting held in the new Headquarters. In addition to these events, Mr. Herbert E. Bar- nard, Immediate Past President, was honored by the presentation of an Award of Merit and a Gold Key in recognition of the service he gave as President last year. Mr. Reese Smith, President of the Junior Bar Conference of the american Bar Association pre- sented to Wayne L. Millsap, Immediate Past Chair - man of the Junior Section, the Award of Progress which was won on the entry submitted this year at the convention held in Washington, D. C. A total of 3 5 new members , whose application had been received over the past several months, were admitted to membership in The Bar Association of St. Louis at this meeting. The following persons have filed application for membership in The Bar Association of St. Louis and their applications will be considered shortly by the Admissions Committee. W.Bell Telephone Company COCKTAIL PARTY AT MISSOURI BAR CONVENTION HAILED AS A SUCCESS Many favorable comments have been received by members of The Bar Association of St. Louis for the fine reception and cocktail party which was given as a part of the Missouri Bar Convention held recently at the Chase Hotel. We are pleased to have received these Thank you's and at this time wish to say a word of thanks to the some twenty firms and individuals who contrib- uted so generously in order to make this party poss- ible. This is another indication of how the organized Bar can assist in making a project worthwhile and in this case allowing the Host Bar of the Host city actu- ally play the role of a Host in a splendid way.
