Justice Holmest retirement from the Supreme Court bench on January 13, 1932 without feeling a pulling at the hearstrings and a quickening of the pulse. Oliver Wendell Holmes was born on March 8, 1841. He was graduated from Harvard in 1861, the year of the outbreak of the Civil War.
