First held in 2008 as an initiative of the AALL Leadership Development Committee, the workshop is part of a long-term strategy to develop new leaders with skills important to furthering the interests of the library profession within the workplace and beyond.The program has also been offered in 2009 and 2011 .The authors feel fortunate to have been among this year's academy participants and would like to share some highlights. Academy attendees, who must be within the first 10 years of their library career, were selected based on a written application and two supporting professional recommendations.
