While I have given up a regular shift on the reference desk, I still occasionally fill in when someone is sick or on vacation. Our work is considered quiet and boring by many, if not most people; and some- times, if the truth be told, it is. Yet on occasion, an unusual patron sometimes interrupts our quiet, orderly lives and all hell breaks loose. Why, just the other day ... There I was, working evening reference, minding my own business, when our no-nonsense circulation desk assistant, Susan, comes striding up to my desk and announces, Here's one for ya, there's a naked guy at circulation. Not sure if I'm hearing her correctly, I look over, and sure enough, there is a young man, who at the very least is not wearing a shirt, standing at the counter. The circulation desk prevents me from verifying the circ assistant's story, but I have no reason to doubt her. Great, this is what I get for volunteering to work for a sick colleague! (I make a mental note: from now on flu shots will be mandatory for all public services staff!)
