handle is hein.journals/kindex4 and id is 1 raw text is: FOREWORD Gaining access to vital information as fast as possible has become a necessity in today's world; especially in a world where juvenile violence is proliferating and the victimization of children is at an all time high. These rising statistics underscore the need to provide easy-access to information on the broadest range possible of juvenile justice issues. KINDEX - An Index to Legal Periodical Literature Concerning Children, is published by NCJJ to do just that. KINDEX started as an in-house tool, written by hand, to aid the needs of our research efforts in 1974. It soon became evident that KINDEX would benefit other organizations, such as libraries, public defender offices, youth services and juvenile courts. KINDEX was then computerized for easier file maintenance, better accessibility and ease of publication. KINDEX, published annually since 1976, classifies articles by subject content. There are over 300 KINDEX subject classifications that will allow information to be at one's fingertips. We realize that some researchers may be interested in some subjects not contained under existing classifications, there- fore, a search capacity was built into KINDEX. Now, the entire database can be researched for one or more words appearing in the citation. This service is offered by NCJJ at specified prices. Back issues of Kindex can be purchased from W.S.
