handle is hein.journals/jccj1 and id is 1 raw text is: f 0 PREFACE The Journal of Contemporary Criminal Justice is intended to be a forum for scholars, students and professionals to express perceptions about change affecting the criminal justice field. This is the first issue published and as such we welcome comments and suggestions for improvement. We strongly encourage our colleagues and students in sister institutions to participate in future issues of the Journal. All points of view will be welcomed as it is through the expressing of ideas that constructive change comes forward and is finally accepted by the system. The criminal justice field is faced with a rapidly changing society demanding response to pressures from all segments. The adapt- ability of criminal justice agencies and the awareness of those charged with responding to demands will result in either acceptance or rejection of purported solutions. Budgetary pressures will result in forced change and hopefully all affected will understand the implications. This type of change is usually not acceptable to either the provider of services or the receiver, but possibly with a clear appreciation of the constraints all available resources can be used to the best advantage of society in general. It is our hope that both the issues and the constraints will receive printed visibility through the Journal and in this small way contribute to a better under- standing of problem areas. SEMINARS The Department of Criminal Justice, in an effort to explore problems and realities in criminal justice, have and will continue to present timely seminars on topics of concern to the criminal justice community and the public sector. Seminars previously held covered the following topics: - Police Policy Development and Analysis - The Police and Labor Negotiations Future topics include: - Stress Reduction for Law Enforcement Personnel scheduled for June 1, 1978 - Stress Reduction for Judges - New Directions in Corrections - Security Issues in Hospitals and Medical Facilities - Stress Reduction for Correctional Personnel Dates and places to be announced.
