handle is hein.journals/gvnanlj6 and id is 1 raw text is: Note from the Editors In the first issue of the journal the editors, Colin Campbell and Guy Peters, announced that Governance would be a journal devoted to the comparative study of executive politics. As so it has been. Under their superb stewardship this journal has published some of the most stim- ulating research and theory in the area of executive politics. It has become known as a journal that breaks down the barriers between policy and administration and combines these two sub-disciplines in the more general study of governance. As the incoming editors we salute the work of Campbell and Peters, and on behalf of the Research Committee on the Structure and Organization of Government of the International Political Science Association, the group that sponsors this journal, we thank them wholeheartedly for their courage in launching this journal and their skill in managing it through its first five years. Although the journal has published a variety of articles on everything from managerial techniques to political conventions, from abortion pol- icy to industrial policy, the question of executive leadership has always been a central concern. It will continue to be. Your new editors are committed to publishing articles that help students and practioners of the policy process understand the requirements of effective political leadership, whether provided by elected politicians or appointed offi- cials. We hope also to broaden our already broad base by encouraging those whose interest lies in the modern state and its problems to submit their research to us. The journal has published the work of state theo- rists and political economists, and we hope to continue to do so. The original editors wisely anticipated the need to widen the scope of anal- ysis to cover other participants in the executive-bureaucratic fray be- sides political leaders and senior officials (Vol. 1, No. 1). We will continue their efforts. Finally, the journal has developed a reputation as a genuinely com- parative enterprise. Governance has published articles from a wide va- riety of countries, and authors are always encouraged to draw out the implications of their work for a wider audience. This journal is a place to come, not only to learn about New Zealand, Norway, Canada and Brazil, but also to see how ideas and experiences travel across cultural and intellectual divides. As your new editors, we will make every effort to fulfill the mandate that SOG has given us and to follow in the footsteps of Campbell and Peters. MMA GW
