Three articles concern the perennial problem of war and peace. Fuks-Mansfeld deals with this topic as treated in biblical and post-biblical Judaism, while Van den Hout discusses the role of natural law in Hittite documents concerning war and peace. Coomans and Grunfeld address the question whether international organizations such as UN and NATO that focus on collective defense have become outdated since the end of the Cold War. Wiersma writes on the influence Grotius had on the famous German theologian Bonhoeffer. Finally Ziegler discusses the import of antiquity into the international law of Europe. Unfortunately this volume does not contain the usual bibliography. The next volume surely will make up for this shortcoming. Dr. E. Rabbie (Constantijn Huygens Instituut, Grotius Department, P.O. Box 90754, 2509 LT The Hague) has succeeded dr. B.P. Vermeulen as Executive Editor.
