GOs are a veryuseful and transparent tool to track energy from renewable sources. EmmaVermunicht describes what it takes to reach the full potential of GOs in the energy transition, putting both consumers and producers in the driver's seat in achieving the EU's 2050 climate goals. The energy transition plays also a role in the next ar- ticle byDr. PolykarposAdamidis who takes us through the repercussions ofenergy trends on geopolitics. En- ergy has traditionallyplayed an important role in global geopolitics, contributing to the rise ofpowers, the for- mation ofalliances and, unfortunatelyalso towars and conflicts over the energy resource. The author looks further and discusses the repercussions on geopolitics over the transition into the climate neutral economy. REMIT is back! John Ratcliff is following up from an article on 'Market Manipulation under REMIT', which he and his colleague Marilena Nteve shared with us last year. In this follow-up, John highlights how REMIT also catches failure to publicly disclose inside information as well as another decision on market ma- nipulation by layering and marking the close, this time by the Spanish Authorities. Prof. Dr. Antonis Metaxas and Dr. Maria Lykidi lead us through the regulatory reforms and challenges in the implementation of the EU Gas Target Model. Theirpaper looks in detail at the EU Third Package for Gas, the role of LNG, storage and supply and future challenges and necessary steps towards the establish- ment of a single gas market. A group ofauthors - Christoph Domke,Arne Koep- pel, Giles Dixon, Quentin Potts and Wen-Yu Weng - share their interesting perspective on the potential overcapacityoflithium-ion batteryproduction in Eu- rope and how this and other risks could impact the European battery industry and their stakeholders. And finally, we are very grateful to Ottmar Eden- hofer, Mirjam Kosch, Michael Pahle and Georg Zach- mann who permitted us to include their paper on ,,A whole-economy carbon price for Europe and how to get there which was first published in Bruegel Policy Contribution in March this year. This will be the last European Energy and Climate Journalin the Claeys & Casteels dress.
