GLENWICK Fordhan University In 1974, 1 had the good fortune to serve as a graduate student intern in correctional psychology under Stanley Brodsky at the Univer- sity of Alabama. One day early that summer, Stan handed me a copy of a new journal, suggesting, Take a look at this and tell me what you think. It was the first issue of Criminal Justice and Behavior (CJ&B), which Stan had just initiated as founding editor, with the support of Sage Publications. The time was ripe for a journal on psychology and the criminal justice system, and Stan, with his blend of academic and real-world experience, was surely the right person to launch it. It is not surprising, given the efforts and talents of Stan (editor from 1974 to 1980)-as well as those of his two distinguished successors, Don Gottfredson (1981-1986) and Allen Hess (1987-1992)-that CJ&B grew and prospered. Little did I then expect, however, to have the honor of serving as CJ&B's fourth editor, decades later, during its 20th anniversary. In human development, 20 is often a chronological marker of young adulthood. One's identity has taken shape, while one remains open to new possibilities for the future. In this spirit, it was felt that a 20th anniversary issue of CJ&B, on the state of the science and art of criminal justice and behavior, was certainly appropriate.
