hat follows is an interview conducted by Carla
Varriale-Barker, the chair of Segal McCam-
bridge's sports practice group, ofLauren Lubin April
(they, them), a non-binary athlete and activist who has
been on the forefront of non-binary and transgender
advancements in sports and health, academia, film
and media, public policy and more for over a decade.
In 2016, Lauren became the first-ever openly non-
binary runnerto compete inthe NewYorkCity Marathon,
and repeated history in 2019 at the Boston Marathon.
