While Dr FMB Reynolds was in New Zealand for the 1990 Common- wealth Law Conference, he accepted an invitation from the New Zealand Branch to attend its Annual Meeting at Tokaanu in April 1990. He agreed, at short notice, to speak on two topics - The Hague Rules, Hague-Visby Rules and Hamburg Rules and Some recent developments in maritime law in England. His addresses were in the nature of commentaries on current developments. They were not papers which had been researched and prepared for the purpose of presentation in a formal way. We are pleased to have the author's consent to the presentation of edited texts of those addresses in this Journal.
