Message
First, I come to praise Jim and Lois
Gamble. ACTEC's 1998-1999 year was
filled with a splendid mixture of innova-
tion and tried-and-true; the three national
meetings were extraordinarily successful,
crowned by the annual meeting at the
Grand Wailea in Maui, which most Fel-
lows ranked as the most glorious site in
our history. The question for CCI and the
Board of Regents was not whether to go
back but when.
The summer meeting in Portland,
Oregon, drew a record number of Fellows
and spouses, many of whom explored the
area before or after the meeting. John
Wallace led us through the labyrinth of
family partnerships with consummate
skill. Cleveland proved to have a wide
array of attractions, from the Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame to the Cleveland Sym-
phony. The fall seminar had fourteen
speakers addressing the use of charitable
gifts and life insurance in the design of
estate plans. Neill McBryde and his pro-
gram committee put together another out-
standing program in Hawaii, and there was
record participation in a wide variety of
