Lil and I have attended the past 21 consecutive Annual Meet- ings of the College. During that time, I have seen the College evolve - gener- ally, all for the good. In 1976, Luther Avery laid down a challenge at the Hilton Head meeting: he asked whether the College was a club or college. While the answer may have been some- what doubtful at that time, it can now be firmly stated that we are, at least primarily, a College. The growth of committee work and the extensive Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs combined with our recent activity with amicus curiae briefs give testimony to that answer, as does the outreach of the Foundation. In other areas, however, the Col- lege has not changed very much over 20 years. The average age of the Fel- lows is still fairly advanced at 61.
