Mitchell Miller' Published online: 14 January 2019 © Southern Criminal Justice Association 2019 Happy New Year and welcome to Issue 1, Volume 44 of the American Journal of Criminal Justice! This issue ushers in a new format for the publication as we pivot from four to six issues per annual volume. These additional issues will effect faster dissem- ination of significant new research enabled by a steadily increasing flow of high quality manuscript submissions. Consistent with its almost four decade tradition as a discipline-wide general publication, AJCJ continues to solicit submissions addressing a wide range of topics spanning the three main prongs of the criminal justice system as well as juvenile delinquency and justice, victimization, crime causation, and theory-to- practice analyses and related program evaluations. We also welcome manuscripts addressing contemporary social problems with integral justice involvement such as criminal justice reform issues (e.g., opioids epidemic, immigration and border issues, and selective use of police force). While we will also consider selective theoretical, justice policy, and social legal commentaries, preference will be for high quality manuscripts through the refereed review process rather than topic, theoretical/ ideological orientation, or methodological approach. The new six issues per volume format is timely and adds momentum to our ongoing Namesake Initiative - a focused, multi-faceted effort to elevate the journal to a first choice submission option. Fortified with a new Thomson Reuters Impact Factor in 2018, a larger and more diverse nationally representative editorial board, and an acceptance rate of about 20 %, AJCJis synergized and upwardly focused. We have a strong backlog of quality forthcoming articles by a combination of well known and emerging discipline scholars as well as a forthcoming thematic guest edited issue featuring invited works from recent SCJA President Marv Krohn's invited conference presentations. To promote our new focus we have also instigated an ambitious confer- ence exhibit tour and have already attended a number of CCJ national and regional association conferences as well as practitioner meetings to reinforce the translational import of our work and bolster our connectivity to professional stakeholders.
