Departments of Justice and State
U.S. immigration problems as discussed in this
summary of six prior GAO reports are severe.
This summary deals with matters ranging
from an inability to control large scale illegal
entry to an inequity in the existing immigra-
tion law which unfairly allows illegal entrants
to later obtain immigration benefits while
bona fide immigrants are denied early admis-
sion.
The seriousness of our immigration problems
dictates a need for early correction. Hopefully
this report will provide some impetus in that
direction.
