This case study describes a GAO audit staff's use
of the chi-,quare test for independence. The test was
part of the analysis to evaluate the Law Enforcement
Education Program. Our intent in issuing this booklet
is to illustrate how the chi-square test can contribute
to GAO s work and to help auditors recognize when
it can be used.
