This report discusses the delays in the Depart- ment of Energy's efforts to develop an integrated logistics support system and the resultant dif- ficulties encountered in acquiring, controlling, and protecting spare and repair parts for the Reserve The Department has made some im- provements in its management of logistics support activities, but an integrated logistics support system for the Reserve still had not been completed as of March 1984 GAO recommends that the Department more closely monitor the development of a new Reserve storage site to ensure that integrated logistics support is fully incorporated prior to the start of operations It also recommends im- provements in the Department's management of its logistics-related contract SGAO/RCED-8123973 0U GAO/RCED-84-1 2 APRIL 13, 1984 7 CO.4.
