The design, submitted formally by the Assistant Attorney General for Administration on September 16, 1981, is adequate and in conformity with the Department's approved accounting principles and standards. Our evaluation of the automatic data processing aspects of the system design was directed primarily o a determination of the adequacy of the network of internal controls, audit trails, data integrity, and consistency with the property accounting specifications. To maintain the approved status of the design, any signif- icant changes should be discussed with our representatives and, if necessary, submitted formally for approval. We suggest that the Department's internal auditors periodi- cally review the system in operation to assure that it is in accordance with the approved design. At some future date we will examine selected aspects of the system and advise you as to whether it is functioning effectively and in accordance with our approval. Sincerely yours, I _TON J.
