The Joint Special Committee, to whom were referred several Petitions for the abolition of Capital Punishment, have heard the Petitioners on five different days, and have given the subject their deliberate and serious attention. The majority of the Committee do not feel that reasons have been presented which would justify them in recommending that the prayer of the Petitioners should be granted; and therefore they report that the Petitioners have leave to withdraw, and that the Com- inittee be discharged from the further consideration of the subject.
