The Sheraton-Biltmore Hotel will be the site of the seventieth Annual Meeting of the Rhode Island Bar Association on Monday, October 9, 1967, at 4:00 p.m. in the State Suite, room 1557. In the evening, the Annual Dinner will be served in the Garden Room, and the dinner speaker will be Frederick B. Wie- ner, Esq., better known as Fritz by his 6:30 P.M. contemporaries in Rhode Island. Mr. Wiener was admitted to the Rhode Island Bar in 1931 and practiced in this state for a time. He attended Brown University and Harvard Law School. He rose from Captain to Colonel during World War II (1941-1945). He is the author of Effective Appel- late Advocacy, 1950: Briefing and Ar- guing Federal Appeals, 1961: and if you want current material, an article by Mr. Wiener appears in the August, 1967 issue of the American Bar Association Journal, p. 713 entitled Cooling the Long Hot Summers. He was Assistant Solicitor, U.S. De- partment of Interior, 1934-37: Special At- torney and Special Assistant to the Attor- ney General of the United States, 1937-41' Assistant to the Solicitor Gener- al of the U.S., 1945-48; and Reporter to the Committee of U.S. Supreme Court on the Revision of its Rules, 1953-54. He was awarded the Brown University Bicen- tennial Medallion in 1965. Mr. Wiener's topic for our Annual Din- ner will be Three Tragic Fallacies That Encourage Rioting.
