Dixon, Jr. of Raleigh, has scheduled a public hearing to consider possible means of increasing the competence and effectiveness of new lawyers. The public hearing will be held in the Council Chambers of The North Carolina State Bar Building in Raleigh at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 30, 1984. The Special Committee is studying a variety of proposals including the expansion of the Practical Skills Course offered by the North Carolina Bar Association and the requirement that such a course be successfully completed, the enhancement of legal clerkship oppor- tunities, the development of district bar pro- grams to provide local support for new lawyers, and the involvement of the judiciary in developing programs to foster trial ad- vocacy skills. Comments on these and other proposals are solicited. Written submissions are also encouraged.
